Every child is unique and special - but as a parent, you can tell when something isn't quite right. Have you noticed your child walking or standing in unnatural ways? Do they complain of sore limbs or stiff joints? Do they experience pain or difficulty running? It may be a sign of an orthopedic issue.
Make plans to attend the free Shriners Hospitals For Children Screening Clinic on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
Orthopedic Institute is proud to partner with Shriners Hospitals for Children again this year, as we host their annual screening clinic on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 7:30 am – 12:30 pm. The screening clinic is for any child up to age 18 with bone, muscle or joint problems.
On-site evaluations will be provided free of charge by a Shriners Hospitals for Children medical professional, who will provide a recommendation for treatment or a second opinion.
Dr. Walter Carlson, a partner at Orthopedic Institute and a fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedist who is also a Shriner, is the driving force behind this annual effort.
Any child who could benefit from seeing a pediatric orthopedic specialist should come to the clinic on April 14. Some of the more common childhood problems that will be evaluated include:
- In-toeing ("pigeon toes")
- Toe walking
- Flat feet
- Bowed legs or knocked knees
- Sore, painful or stiff joints
- Limb deficiency
- Limb length discrepancy
- Curved spine indicating possible scoliosis
- Club feet
"One of the great things about the Shrine is we treat every patient regardless of their ability to pay. If they don't have insurance or they can't afford it, we will take any and all patients," El Riad Shrine's Roger Risty said.
The local Shriners also spend the day with the children and their families offering entertainment and refreshments.
Walk-ins are welcome, however, for staffing purposes, it is preferred that you make an appointment. Call 612.596.6105 to schedule. We hope to see you there!
